Meet the Band

Hey, what's up everyone? My name is Karl Kofmehl, the male lead singer and guitarist of this wonderful group that we call Leap of Faith. I'm a senior at the University of Iowa studying mathematic education. My real passion however is music. I've been involved with music all my life. My mom was the primary reason for that fact. I play piano, saxophone and guitar, but my real cup of tea is my vocal ability. I love to sing and have sung all my life. Most importantly I love singing to and for God. Music is a special kind of prayer, and I truly feel I'm praying my best when I sing. I thank my parents everyday for encouraging my singing all those years. I love you both. I sang all through grade school and definatley will never be with out music in my life
My passion for music followed me to college, and I knew that I would have to find an outlet for my singing or I'd go insane. Also, I did have a pretty firm faith life, and I knew that I wanted to continue going to church. So naturally, I decided to find a nice church that I could sing at (two birds with one stone and all that). I ended up at the Newman Center on campus, and found a great church with a great choir in the Newman Singers. The Newman Singers not only were a church choir however. They were a music ministry, which was a new concept to me. I actually didn't have exposure to music ministry through junior high and high school, although I was very active in my church youth group and choir. Well, needless to say, I fell in love with music ministry and I wanted more. I wanted to be a part of something personal that I could put input into and really become a minister of my faith. I was in luck, because I found somebody that wanted the same thing through the singers. Charles Brock joined the group and gave me an opportunity to do just that. He proposed we start a group and just see what happens. From the moment he approached me with that idea, I never looked back. We formed our little group, and right away I knew we had something special. We clicked so well and I could tell this could be something big for ministry. Well now we've been together for almost three years! I can't believe it's been that long. We've been to so many places and seen so many people. I pray that we are making a difference in peoples' lives because that is what this group is about. With the release of our 2nd album, I hope we can reach out to more people not only in our own state but in states across the country. If you are reading this and have anything, ANYTHING, you'd like to ask me about music, faith, or whatever, I'm more than happy to do my best to answer any questions you may have. I love getting email and meeting new people, so drop me a line! Thank you and God Bless!
